EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Position Description

REPORTS TO: Slow Food Wind River Board of Directors
POSITION TYPE: Full time
COMPENSATION RANGE: $65,000 - $81,000, commensurate with experience
BENEFITS: Health care stipend, paid sick leave, PTO, market discount, travel reimbursement, and flexible/hybrid schedule.
About the Position
The Executive Director provides strategic leadership and day-to-day operational oversight for Slow Food Wind River. This role is responsible for advancing the organization’s mission, strengthening financial sustainability through fundraising and earned revenue, supervising staff, managing relationships with community partners, and ensuring strong governance in partnership with the Board. The Executive Director will balance hands-on operational management with external-facing development, advocacy, and representation.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
Develop, refine, and implement organizational strategy and annual work plans with the Board
Set priorities across the market, shared kitchen, programs, and development
Financial Oversight:
Lead budgeting and financial planning
Oversee bookkeeping and financial controls
Ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting
Present monthly financials to the Board/finance committee
Fundraising and Development:
Drive fundraising strategy including major donors, grants, sponsorships, earned revenue, and events
Cultivate donor relationships and ensure strong stewardship
Operations and Program Management:
Oversee market and kitchen operations through direct supervision of managers
Ensure quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and excellent customer/user experience
Human Resources:
Hire, supervise, and mentor staff
Ensure equitable personnel policies, staff development, and a positive workplace culture
Communications and Advocacy:
Serve as primary spokesperson for SFWR
Build community partnerships
Represent SFWR in local coalitions and public forums
Governance and Board Relations:
Support the Board with timely information and strategic recommendations
Prepare board meeting materials with the Board chair and attend meetings
Performance Measurement:
Establish and track metrics for program impact, volunteer engagement, revenue, and community outcomes
Preferred Qualifications
3-5 years of nonprofit leadership, executive, or small-business management experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience in community-based food systems or related fields preferred.
Proven success in fundraising (grants, donors, sponsorships) and earned-revenue strategies.
Strong financial literacy with experience overseeing budgets and financial reporting.
Demonstrated people management skills, including hiring, supervising, and developing staff.
Excellent written and verbal communication; capacity to represent the organization publicly and cultivate partnerships.
